So, I have a new job. I guess you all mostly know that. As I have spoken to the women who work here a lot of them speak of the sexist atmosphere in which they work. The men that they say are sexist, I really haven't had a problem with, mostly probably because I don't interact with them too much.
So, here's the curious part. There is one man I work with quite a bit. He is the go to guy for a lot of people. Yesterday at a meeting, I looked over to see him kneeling next to a woman and discussing something with her...yes kneeling on both knees, Then I looked over at the man who was facilitating the group and again when he was talking to a women, he went down on one knee so he was talking to her face to face.
Just an observation that I'm not sure what to make of...hmmmmm.
Interesting...that actually shows respect for the women. A sexist would loom over the woman and make her look up to him. Believe me...I've worked for/with many sexists. Sounds as if their idea of sexism and mine are two different things. :)

I agree, Cat. It is was just such a weird thing when I have been hearing about all the sexism that is rampant and yet here are men who aren't sexist and are physically showing they aren't sexist. If only it was catching!
DeleteMost of the women say there is a good ole boy network. Thankfully, I work with the two men who were kneeling, so as you say the conversation was held face to face.
Thanks for the thoughts.
Congratulations on the new job Cygnet. Interesting observation, I agree with Cat,this actually shows respect to me.

Thanks for the congratulations on the new job. It has been fine, but the commute is a killer. I am hoping something closer to me opens us. Who knows where my life will be in the next year. Never a dull moment!
DeleteVery interesting. Is he tall - if he wants to be eye to eye it might explain - is the woman sitting down and he doesn't want to tower over her. I can think of lots of reasons but would love to know the real one. Curiosity killed the cat.
ReplyDeleteHi Leigh,
DeleteYes, the women were seated and the men are tall. I am sure they didn't want to be looming over they while they carried on their conversations. It just struck me as funny when I hear about all the sexism that is rampant in the office and I see men who are physically acting non-sexist. It is quite the dichotomy between what I hear and what I see.
Thanks for the thoughts!
